Sugababes concert proves a major hit

IT may have been raining in Glastonbury but here in Canterbury the sun held out for the Sugababes -who rocked the St Lawrence Ground in front of a crowd in excess of four thousand. Normally only graced with cricketers, the pitch was filled with kids in pink cowboy hats, kart wheeling to Sugababes hits, Pimms drinking parents and people- like myself – who may not like to admit – but secretly love the catchy hits of the girl band.

They“ve been around for over ten years now – with 16 top ten hits – and it“s hard to believe they managed a set lasting nearly two hours in such painfully high stilettos! But last they did, pumping out hits from their early days like “Freak like me” and “Overload” – to more recent numbers like “Here come the Girls” and “Push the Button”.

And if you were lucky enough to be here tonight you got a chance to hear unreleased tunes like “ Beware” a bluesy, soulful number which the band were told by their record company not to release – although they wanted to- and a cover of En Vogues“ “Don“t Let Go.” With acoustic versions of “Lost in You” the pace was eased down- only to be cranked up again with girls“ nightclub favourite – 2007 hit “About you Now”

With Amelle sporting an edgy new shaved haircut, the girls look like they“re heading in a new direction for the release of their seventh album –in which they“ve collaborated with artists such as Ne-yo. And where better to celebrate what they“ve achieved than at a summer evening here in Canterbury?

Support acts Ironik and Alex Roots also proved a major success and we do it all again tomorrow as James Morrison plays the St Lawrence Ground- and you can be here. Tickets will be available on the night so come along and enjoy what is bound to be another fantastic night of live music.
