Support Kent Cricket’s inclusion in Canterbury’s Official Monopoly Board

Thursday 10th April 2014

Canterbury has seen off a host of Kent locations to be honoured with its’ very own official Monopoly board, and we are campaigning to see The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence feature on the board.

Our historic city beat 19 other Kentish cities and towns in a county-wide contest. Canterbury came out top ahead of (in order): Royal Tunbridge Wells, Dover, Rochester, Margate and Maidstone in a public poll to find Kent’s “most beautiful” place. More than 6,000 votes were cast. The makers of the new board said Canterbury “narrowly” beat Royal Tunbridge Wells and that it was so close the Monopoly dice nearly had to be rolled.

Now the public will get to vote all over again – but this time for just Canterbury landmarks to feature on (and fill) the new Monopoly: Canterbury Edition board.

The public are invited to nominate which locations – and crucially, where they should appear on the board – until 17th April. So, for example, Mayfair could be Canterbury Cathedral.

There are now 22 Canterbury property locations up for grabs, with the board is being produced by Winning Moves UK, which has the official license from Monopoly owners Hasbro to produce the board.

As well as property landmarks taking on a Canterbury flavour and feel, many of the Community Chest and Chance cards will be customised too.

There are even plans for one to fine players for merely visiting Maidstone!

Landmarks that could appear on the board include Canterbury Cathedral, St Martin’s Church – reputed to be the oldest church in England still in use – St. Augustine’s Abbey, The Marlowe Theatre, The Roman Museum and of course, The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Robert Osborne, Monopoly Manager at Winning Moves UK, who have the official license from Monopoly owners to produce this board, says: “We’re delighted to be producing this official version of Monopoly based on the most popular loved landmarks of Canterbury.”

Voting runs until midnight on 17th April 2014. Please get behind the Club and send your nominations and suggestions to canterbury@winningmoves.co.uk OR at www.facebook.com/canterburymonopoly or via traditional ‘snail mail’ to: CANTERBURY MONOPOLY, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NJ.

Let’s all do our bit to ensure that The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence is a key feature on the new board…
