Surrey v Kent – Day One – The Oval

Sunday 10th July 2011

Men’s First Team

End of Day One: Surrey 387 Kent 36 /2 Surrey 4 points Kent 3 Points

Kent closed 361 runs behind Surrey in their first innings at stumps on day one at The Oval.

The first day of the LV=CC match against Surrey was dominated by a big Zander de Bruyn hundred. In an innings that lasted exactly 200 balls, de Bruyn posted 179, striking 25 fours. It held Surrey's innings together as they posted 387. Gareth Batty was the only other player to pass fifty as he scored 65 before being caught and bowled by Martin van Jaarvsveld.

The Kent attack worked hard to take wickets with Wahab Riaz and David Balcombe taking two each, but it was the stand in spin pairing for van Jaarsveld and Denly who wrapped the innings up before the second new ball was taken.

Kent had a tricky period before the close, with Chris Tremlett, Tim Linley and Stuart Meaker making life difficult – the Surrey attack picked up Denly (13) and Joseph (1), leaving Kent 36 for 2.
