Tammy Beaumont wins Walter Lawrence Trophy

Kent and England opener Tammy Beaumont won this year’s Walter Lawrence Women’s Award with a dazzling innings of 168 not out, scored against Pakistan Women in the Third One-Day International at Taunton on June 27.

The 25-year-old Kent opener scored 70 in the first ODI, and 104 in the second, during which she shared an opening stand of 235 with Lauren Winfield.

Tammy’s unbeaten innings of 168, scored from 144 balls and including 20 fours, earned her the Player of the Match award, as England wrapped up the series with a decisive 3-0 victory.

Assessing her winning knock, Tammy recalls, ‘I think the most pleasing thing about my innings was how I managed to go through the gears.

"Looking back at the highlights reel you get to see all the expansive shots I played at the back end of the innings and it made it look like it was just one of those days for a batter. We all seem to forget I was on about 10 after ten overs!"

She also chipped in with innings of 82 and 55 in the three T20 games.

Tammy, who is a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador, grew up playing cricket with her father and brother for Sandwich Town, before making her debut for Kent in 2007.

She made her England ODI & T20I debuts in the West Indies in 2009, before successfully captaining the England Women’s Academy team on tours to Sri Lanka in 2014 and the UAE in 2015.

This year she was selected to open the batting for England in the World T20 Cup, since when she hasn’t looked back. To date, she has played in 2 Tests, 26 ODIs and 44 T20Is.

For Kent, she helped the county to a record seventh County Championship title and a third T20 title as Kent sealed the domestic double.

Tammy is set for a busy Winter, following back-to-back tours with England to West Indies (September 30 – October 22) and Sri Lanka (November 1 – 20), she joins the Big Bash in Australia.

A chemistry and sports science graduate from Loughborough University, Tammy is the fifth winner of the Walter Lawrence Women’s Award since it was introduced and wins a special silver medallion and a cheque for £500.
