Under 15s win County Cup

Thursday 25th August 2016

Kent Under 15 boys lifted the County Cup Division B title at Leamington Cricket Club in Warwickshire.

Worcestershire were the opponents in the final who won the toss and batted first.

They made a strong start with 84 added for the first wicket before the Kent attack fought back.

Matt Walker (2/37) and Alex Beck (2/42) were the pick of the bowlers and there was a wicket each for Finlay Baker and Ben Day.

The fielding unit did well to restrict the scoring and effect four run outs: two by academy scholar Tom Davis and one each for Isaac Dilkes and Joe Gordon as Worcestershire took risks with their running.

Chasing 203 to win, Kent slipped to 32 for two before academy scholars Julian O’Riordan and Jordan Cox shared a partnership of 144 for the third wicket.

Both batsmen hit nine fours with O’Riordan unbeaten on 84 and Jordan Cox scoring 74, almost reprising their 150-run stand in the semi-final win at Berkshire.

Fellow scholar Joe Gordon helped Kent over the line to the delight of the team, coached by former Kent batsman Neil Taylor and managed by Gary Metcalfe.
