Will Gidman to lead Kent against Loughborough MCCU

All-rounder Will Gidman will lead Kent against Leeds-Bradford MCCU in a three-day first class match at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on Tuesday (28 March, 11am).

With ten days left until the Specsavers County Championship starts with the visit of Gloucestershire, places are up for grabs in the Kent side.

Club captain Sam Northeast rests a minor hamstring injury and Matt Coles is still recovering from an operation to remove a varicose vein with both players working towards being fit for the opening Championship fixture on Friday 7 April (11am).

Gidman, who signed from Nottinghamshire last year after a successful loan spell last summer, captained Kent in a match on the club’s FGS Plant Tour to the West Indies last month.

Daniel Bell-Drummond sits out after recently returning from the North v South series and Sam Billings is flying out to join Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils later this week so Adam Ball opens the batting and Adam Rouse will keep wicket.

Ivan Thomas could play against his old University side and Kent name two spinners in a 12-man squad.

Entry to all three days is free as is car parking on the ground.

Food and drink will be served at the Lime Tree Café and the Spitfire Bar in the Les Ames Stand. There will be no access to the Cornwallis and HR GO Harris Room.

Kent squad: 24 Adam Ball, 58 Sean Dickson, 6 Joe Denly, 42 Will Gidman (c), 3 Darren Stevens, 10 Alex Blake, 10 Adam Rouse (wk), 25 Calum Haggett, 15 James Tredwell, 8 Mitch Claydon, 5 Ivan Thomas, 11 Imran Qayyum
