Youthful team lose to Middlesex

A youthful Kent side lost to Middlesex by six wickets in their final home match of the season at The County Ground, Beckenham.

Former England wicketkeeper Lauren Griffiths led the side as one of three players aged over 21 in the absence of several senior players rested after Super League T20 matches.

Openers Lottie Bryan and 16-year-old Molly Davis shared a fine 54-run stand and Under-17 duo Izzy Cloke and Chelsey Rowson added 30 for the fourth wicket before a collapse.

Seven wickets fell for 23 runs with Izzy Westbury removing Rowson and Cloke in the 22nd over on her way to 4/19 in ten overs.

Defending 110, teenage Cloke struck in the third over of the reply, bowling Middlesex captain Naomi Dattani for a duck.

Spinner Megan Belt picked up two wickets and Phoebe Franklin grabbed the other before the visitors reached their target with 24.1 overs to spare.

Next up is a trip to North Maidenhead to play bottom side Berkshire on Bank Holiday Monday (28 August) to secure a place in Division One in 2018.

Skipper Tammy Beaumont, vice-captain Alice Davidson-Richards and England international bowlers Laura Marsh and Tash Farrant are set to return to action.
