Youthful side lose to Yorkshire

Kent Women’s hopes of extending their record run of County Championship wins were dealt a blow with a home defeat to Yorkshire at The Spitfire Ground.

After a loss to Lancashire on Sunday, the side were without captain Tammy Beaumont who rested a niggle ahead of the Women’s World Cup, which starts next month.

Alice Davidson-Richards skippered the side on her 23rd birthday and the visitors won the toss, electing to bat first.

After a 87-run opening stand by England batsman Lauren Winfield (40) and skipper Jess Watson (38), Kent struck twice in successive overs.

Grace Gibbs and Megan Belt got breakthroughs in their first overs before a 50-run stand by Hollie Armitage and Anna Nicholls (21) steadied the ship.

Pape bowled Nicholls before Tash Farrant, who celebrated her 21st birthday with a wicket: returning to trap Armitage LBW.

fluent half-centuries for Armitage (51) and England’s Katherine Brunt (53*) helped put on another 52 runs off  56 balls helped the White Rose county post 241 for four.

In reply, Kent lost Emily Thompson in the third over before fellow opener Lottie Bryan and all-rounders Grace Gibbs and Laura Marsh followed as Kent slipped to 35 for four.

Skipper Alice Davidson-Richards played the anchor role but could not find a partner despite cameos from Phoebe Franklin, Lauren Griffiths and Izzy Cloke before Yorkshire wrapped up the 120-run win.
