2010 second team fixtures released

The second team fixtures for the 2010 cricket season have been released and Kent begin their season with a trip to Essex in the Second XI Trophy. They then take on Gloucestershire, at Beckenham, in both the Trophy and the Championship.

The competitions remain the same as last year and work as follows:

The Second XI Championship: The 18 First Class Counties, MCC Young Cricketers and MCC Universities have been divided into two groups of ten teams. Teams will play every other member in their group once in a three-day match. The winners of each group will play in a four-day final scheduled for September 7.

The Second XI Trophy: The 18 First Class Counties, MCC Young Cricketers and Minor Counties have been divided into two groups of ten teams. Teams will play every other member in their group once in a 50-over match with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi finals which are scheduled for the August 30 with the final taking place on September 13.

In addition counties will play extra three or four-day matches throughout the season. There will be 47 matches in addition to those scheduled as part of the Second XI Championship and Second XI Trophy.

Commenting on the new season, Kent high performance director, Simon Willis (pictured), said: “We are all looking forward to the season and cannot wait for the action to begin. We have an exciting group of youngsters and many of them have now experienced some first-team cricket. Hopefully they will now be able to dominate, in both second team competitions, in 2010.
