Ben Compton signs for Kent

Kent Cricket is pleased to announce the signing of Ben Compton on a two-year contract.

The opening batter joins the county after averaging 51.08 in this year’s Second XI Championship for Nottinghamshire, scoring two centuries.

The left-hander also featured for Kent Second XI in the 2019 Second XI Championship, making 116 not out on debut, scoring successive hundreds against Middlesex and Sussex, and averaging 62.40 from eight matches.

Grandson of Denis and a cousin of Nick, Compton also scored 71 on List A debut for Notts. in 2021’s Royal London Cup.

The 27-year-old also has five first-class appearances to his name so far in his career.

On joining Kent, Compton said: “I have some good memories of wearing a Kent shirt for the Second XI – I’m looking forward to playing in front of Kent’s Members and supporters, and giving this Club my all.

“I’m grateful to Paul Downton for this opportunity given to me and I’m eager to repay the faith shown in me.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “Ben is a tenacious cricketer who has shown some real resilience in pursuing his career in professional cricket.

“He has been a consistent run scorer in the Second XI Championship and fully deserves this opportunity at Kent.

As a specialist opening batter, he will add strength to our squad as we aim to be competitive in all three competitions next season.”
