Billings joins Heat in BBL|12 Draft

Kent Men’s Captain Sam Billings has been drafted to Brisbane Heat in this Winter’s KFC Big Bash League (BBL).

The inaugural BBL draft for overseas players ahead of the 12th edition of Australia’s premier T20 competition took place on Sunday morning UK time. In the previous 11 seasons of the BBL, teams would negotiate directly with the international players & their agents themselves.

Billings was selected with the fourth selection of the BBL|12 Draft as a Platinum pick for the Heat, where he will join-up with former Kent teammate Matt Renshaw in Queensland.

Kent stars that have donned the teal of Brisbane Heat since the BBL’s inception in 2011 include the likes of Joe Denly, Yasir Shah, Morné Morkel & Charlie Hemphrey.

Former Kent Men’s Assistant Coach Jason Gillespie was involved in the Draft as Head Coach of the Adelaide Strikers.

BBL|12 does not overlap with the English county season & begins on 13 December, with the Final taking place on 4 February 2023.

The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will once again host a full England Women’s One-Day International (WODI) match in 2022, with a Royal London WODI against India under the lights in Canterbury on Wednesday, 21 September.
