From the CEO’s Chair – 20 April

Wednesday 20th April 2011

Excitement is building as we near the opening day of cricket at the St Lawrence Ground next Tuesday. It has felt a bit like we have missed out in this part of the world with cricket everywhere else in the country.

The late start at home has enabled us to get the ground operational. This week sees the finishing touches being made to the Press Box, Players’ Dressing Rooms and seating areas. Everything is looking very good and we are well on the way to having a ground to be proud of. Of course, this week is hectic as we try to get everything done, but the project team have been magnificent and they share the Club’s desire to get things right.

As we get underway next week there will, no doubt, be things that aren’t quite right. We have worked hard to make sure there are as few as possible, but if you notice anything we could improve please let one of our stewards or a member of staff know.

The stewards were in yesterday for a day’s training. They covered all operational matters and even had a briefing on counter-terrorism. The highlight for me though was being able to present many of them with the NVQ Level 2/3 Certificates. Recognition for a lot of hard work to improve our stewarding. Do say well done if you see any of our regulars on the ground next week.

I spent a couple of days at Northamptonshire last week. It proved to be a tough fixture and you will read in Farby’s Blog about the desire to work hard before Gloucestershire arrive next week. Once again it was good for me to see the group away from home, it does provide a much better opportunity to keep up with cricket matters than when playing at home as there is always something to divert attention at Canterbury.

The sun in still shining and I must admit to having sneaked a peak at the long range forecast. It appears to be set fair – so roll on next Tuesday and the return of Championship Cricket at the St Lawrence. I hope to see you at the ground. It is not too late to take out a membership or ticket package. Details are, of course, available elsewhere on the website.
