Championship Decider – Kent Women’s Squad Announced

Thursday 24th July 2014

Women

Kent play Surrey in the final round match of the 2014 Royal London One-Day Cup, the result of which will decide the 2014 Champions.

The Championship is decided on the basis of average points awarded per match played. Teams can amass a total of 18 points per fixture, 10 for a win with an additional four batting and four bowling bonus points available. So, although Surrey currently have a total of 93 points generated from their six completed games (won five, lost one), three more than Kent, their average points per match of 15.5 has them in second place to Kent’s perfect 18 – played five, won five with full bonus points, two cancelled fixtures.

Head Coach Stuart Eddicott is well aware of his team’s point tally, noting that, ‘as long as we get at least six points from Sunday’s match, Surrey can’t go ahead of us on the table, but saying that, we want a perfect season. We will be going for the 18 points.’

There is one change from the squad named to play last week’s cancelled match against Berkshire, Lauren Griffiths returns, and takes over the keeping duties, taking the place of Deanna Cooper.

By Kent Women’s standards 2013 was a lean year in the Championship, it was the first time in the last 10 years that they had not either won or been runners up in the competition. Champs in 2012 and 2011, their string of success goes back to 2004 when they started their run of, five championship wins and four runner up finishes.

The squad to play Surrey, Sunday 27 July, 11am, at Reed’s School, Sandy Lane, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 2ES, is
