Claydon reaches T20 quarter-finals with Newcastle Steel

Death bowler Mitch Claydon helped Newcastle Steel reach the quarter-finals of the Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup in Sydney.

The 32-year-old paceman was the most economical bowler, taking 1/19 in four overs as Steel defeated Mosman by seven wickets.

Newcastle take on Randwick-Petersham on Sunday for a place in Finals Day on Sunday 1 November.

Fabian Cowdrey’s Western Districts did not qualify for the last eight of the same competition.

Wests lost to Australian Capital Territory and Sydney University with Cowdrey scoring 16 in each match.

In the Newcastle District First Grade, Newcastle City face an uphill battle to avoid defeat against Toronto Workers.

City were dismissed for 78 before Toronto scored 157 for six in reply and Claydon ended with 0-21 off six overs.

In South Africa, Sean Dickson made his debut for Pretoria High School Old Boys.

PHSOB lost by five wickets as the Kent batsman was out without scoring and bowled five overs of medium pace as Assupol Tuks won with seven overs to spare.
