Club issues call for Non-Executive Directors in proposed new Board structure

Kent Cricket has today launched a recruitment campaign for a number of Non-Executive Director positions on its proposed Board.

Over the past 12 months, a Committee-appointed working group has been working hard to bring the Club’s Rules and governance structure in-line with our pro-active commitment to meet the Sport England’s Code of Governance.

The new governance structure will be put to Members at the Club’s 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM); which is now confirmed to take place on Monday 25 April 2022. It will replace the current General Committee structure of nine elected members with no requirement for specific skills, with a Board that is selected for skills that support the Club’s strategic goals.

In addition, it is intended that the new Board comprising of twelve individuals will include at least 30% women and include representation from the black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. This new Board will then be broadly representative of the Club’s county, supporters, staff, stakeholders and playing teams.

Under the proposals, the Board members will be selected by a Nominations Committee and the recommended candidates will be ratified by Members. It is envisaged that some of the existing Committee members will transition to the new Board to provide some continuity. Applications for Non-Executive Directors from a range of backgrounds and skillsets are welcomed.

Simon Philip, Chairman of Kent Cricket, said: “This is an exciting time for cricket in Kent. We are making progress on and off the field, with recent success in the Men’s and Women’s game, whilst now being in robust financial shape.

“Kent Cricket has an ambitious strategy to grow the game across the county and in our London Boroughs – our new governance model further advances our commitment to raising standards across the Club and building an inclusive and welcoming culture.

“We want to attract the very best applicants from a range of backgrounds to join us and the Nomination Committee looks forward to meeting potential candidates over the coming weeks.”
