Ashford School are National Champions

Ashford School have recently been crowned National Champions at the Home of Cricket as they won the ECB U15 Girls’ School’s Indoor Competition.

The girls were unbeaten across the entire competition, which included two county rounds (Kent’s Indoor Eights Competition), a regional and then national final. They came out on top ahead of close to 900 schools who entered nationally, to try and become the best girls’ indoor team in the country.

The National Finals were hosted at the Indoor Centre within Lords Cricket Ground. The Ashford School team won their first three games, one comfortably and the other two more closely in the last over. In the final, Ashford faced a very tough opposition in Ipswich School. The girls took to the challenge, however, setting their highest total to date, of 94 runs in just 8 overs.  With such scoreboard pressure, they were able to shut the game down with two overs to spare and the celebrations ensued.

The Ashford School PE Teacher, Miss Stirling, commented “what a performance from a group of girls who showed talent, understanding, teamwork and most importantly enjoyed the journey!”

We wish the team and school huge congratulations in this achievement.
