First Countdown Under 9 Girls’ Festival a Success

Tuesday 18th June 2024

Kent Cricket have hosted their first softball Countdown Cricket Festival, for girls aged 9 or younger, at Hayes Cricket Club in Bromley.

With more and more girls playing the game from a younger age, there has been demand for the county wide softball cricket offer for club girls to increase. This first of two festivals, hosted in the west of the county, saw four club teams compete at Hayes Cricket Club, on Sunday 19 May.

Holmesdale CC won all three of their league matches to finish in first place. Hayes Hawks were second with two wins, Bromley Eagles 3rd and Beckenham finished in 4th place.

The Countdown Winners Cup Final was exciting and hard fought, as Hayes Hawks overcame Holmesdale by just 11 runs, who they had lost to earlier in the competition that day.

David Sear, organiser of girls’ county wide club cricket competitions in Kent (Under 9 – 13 girls) was full of praise for the young participants. “Although all were just starting their cricketing journeys, their skills and game awareness improved with every match. It was great to witness their enthusiasm. This event has reflected the growth of girls taking up cricket at clubs through the ECB’s National Programmes (All Stars and Dynamos)”

The remaining under 9’s girls club softball ‘Countdown’ festival will be hosted at Linton Park CC on Sunday 30th June. If you are still interested in entering a team, please contact David Sear.
