National Carers’ Week celebration

Monday 17th June 2024

In celebration of National Carers’ Week Kent Cricket Community Trust, in partnership with Hythe Cricket Club and Hythe Dementia Awareness, facilitated a wonderful Cricket and Tea event on Friday 14 June.

Hythe Dementia Awareness brought 25 dementia patients and carers to Hythe Cricket Club for an afternoon of walking cricket in the sun. Starting off with catching exercises the participants practiced their skills which got more challenging each round. Eager for a game, the group enjoyed batting and making some runs for their teams – with one gentleman getting a 4.

It was a privilege to share a cricket tea with the group after the session to spoil the carers and hear stories from those living with Dementia. Some participants remembered playing cricket from their youth and were delighted to be able to ‘smash the ball’ again. While others learnt that they had more ability than expected and gained confidence to try harder.

It was a thoroughly rewarding day for all the partners, and something that we look forward to facilitating again soon. If you would like to partner with the Trust about hosting a similar event at your cricket club or venue, please contact us here.
