Compton & Scrivens win big at Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards

Ben Compton & Grace Scrivens both picked up Players’ Player & Player of the Year accolades at the 2022 Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards.

In a formal evening inside the FGS Plant Harris Suite at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury, Kent Cricket players, staff, Members, sponsors & stakeholders came together to celebrate the achievements of our Men’s & Women’s squads in 2022 in a ceremony proudly sponsored by Shepherd Neame.
Opening batter Compton was the standout winner for Kent Men, adding Men’s Batter of the Year to his Players’ Player & Player of the Year awards, the latter being decided by the Club’s Members & supporters.
Compton received 35.9% of a total amount of votes received during the voting period after a breakout season, being the first man to pass 1,000 runs in Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship & scoring centuries in his first three first-class innings as a Kent player.
Also honoured on the night was Nathan Gilchrist, who won both Men’s Young Player & Bowler of the Year awards after impressing for Kent in this season’s Championship & Royal London Cup, whilst Alex Blake was named Men’s Fielder of the Year & Hamid Qadri received the McCanlis Cup as Men’s Emerging Player of the Year.
Joe Denly won the Spitfire One-Day Player of the Season after captaining Kent Spitfires to winning the Royal London Cup as well as scoring a Vitality Blast century against Middlesex at The Spitfire Ground, on the way to top-scoring for Kent in T20s this season.
With all-rounder Grace Scrivens winning Players’ Player for a second consecutive season & now the big prize of Player of the Year for Kent Women, Ryana MacDonald-Gay also walked away with two accolades; Women’s Young Player of the Year & Bowler of the Year.
Scrivens adds two Club awards alongside being named in the PCA’s Vitality Women’s Team of the Year for her performances at her regional side, Sunrisers.
MacDonald-Gay impressed with both bat & ball for Kent Women this season, taking the most wickets for the Horses this year & providing invaluable runs in the lower-middle order across both formats.
Talent Pathway graduate Alice Grant won Women’s Emerging Player of the Year, with Sydney Gorham winning Fielder of the Year & Phoebe Franklin awarded Batter of the Year.
The Women’s Moment of the Year, as selected by Women’s Head Coach Dave Hathrill, was Alice Davidson-Richards’ hat-trick against Hampshire Women in a T20 back in April.
For the Men, Head Coach Matt Walker chose Kent winning the One-Day Cup for the first time since 1974 as Men’s Moment of the Year.
