Cowdrey celebrates birthday with fourth successive 50

Birthday boy Fabian Cowdrey celebrated his 23rd birthday in style with 95 runs for Western Suburbs in the Sydney First Grade.

The all-rounder clubbed eight fours and a six off 104 balls at the top of the order against Fairfield-Liverpool, adding 136 for the first wicket.

It was the fourth consecutive half-century for Cowdrey, who is finding form with pre-season six weeks away.

Meanwhile, Sam Northeast took a catch as his Sunshine Coast Scorchers side restricted University of Queensland to 122 for four in the Queensland First Grade.

In New Zealand, Laura Marsh lost on her Otago Sparks debut with a ten-wicket T20 reverse against Canterbury on Friday before bouncing back with 5-32 as the Sparks won a 50-over rematch on Saturday.
