Crawley in England squad for South Africa Test Series

Kent opener Zak Crawley will feature for England against South Africa in their upcoming LV= Insurance Test Series.

England Men’s selection panel have named a 14-strong squad for the first two Test matches, starting at Lord’s on Wednesday 17 August.

The right-hander has 25 Test appearances to his name to-date, and has scored two Test hundreds in his burgeoning career so far.

Sussex seamer & former Kent Cricket Academy scholar Ollie Robinson returns to the squad for the first time since the Caribbean tour in March. He returned to LV= County Championship action last week after recovering from a back injury.

Commenting on the selected squad, ECB Men’s Performance Director, Mo Bobat, said: “After an excellent start to the summer under Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, we’re looking forward to an exciting Test series against a strong South Africa side.

“The selectors have picked a squad for the first two Tests at Lord’s and Emirates Old Trafford with continuity in mind.

“It’s good to get Ollie Robinson back in the mix after his recent injury. He will continue his progress by playing for the Lions against South Africa in a four-day match at Canterbury next week.”

The Lions squad for the four-day Tour Match at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will be announced at the end of this week.

Also included are Captain Dean Elgar, Essex’s Simon Harmer, opener Aiden Markram and a fearsome pace bowling attack including Anrich Nortje, Duanne Olivier, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Marco Jansen and Glenton Stuurman.

Kyle Verreynne, who is a domestic teammate of George Linde at WP Blitz, is also in the squad of 17.

England Lions’ white-ball squad to face South Africa has so-far included names such as Somerset’s Tom Banton & Will Smeed, Nottinghamshire’s Ben Duckett, Warwickshire’s Sam Hain and Leicestershire starlet Rehan Ahmed.

Kent’s Ben Compton made a century for the First-Class Counties XI against a touring New Zealand side in a four-day match earlier this season.
