Denly plays as England win their tour opener in South Africa

England 294-7, 50 overs, beat Eagles 109, 26.4 overs, by 185 runs

England, including Kent’s Joe Denly (pictured), opened their tour of South Africa with an emphatic victory over the Diamond Eagles. Denly, who opened up with skipper Andrew Strauss, only made three but Jonathan Trott continued his good recent form for England with a composed 85.

The Warwickshire bat added 123 for the second wicket with Strauss (72), before Eoin Morgan added a quickfire 67 off just 52 balls in England’s total of 294-7.

In reply, the home side were bowled out for just 109 in 26.4 overs. Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Saj Mahmood, Graeme Swann and Paul Collingwood all claimed two wickets.

England have two more warm-up matches before the first of two Twenty20 internationals against South Africa next Friday.
