Denly signals intent to play for Kent for another three seasons by signing contract extension

Kent Cricket is delighted to announce that Joe Denly will remain a Kent player until at least the end of the 2025 season.

The first man born in Canterbury to both be capped by the Club & also play a Test Match for England, Denly graduated from the Kent Cricket Academy in 2005, & has gone on to make over 450 appearances for the county across two playing stints.

The right-hander has amassed more than 18,700 runs for Kent across all formats in his career to-date, & has 43 Kent hundreds his name – one of six male players to have recorded three figures in an innings for the county in three forms of the game. Denly’s current Kent best with the bat is a score of 227 against Worcestershire during the 2017 County Championship.

Also contributing with the ball, his right-arm leg spin has contributed 150 wickets for Kent with best figures of 4-35 against Jamaica during the 2018 Regional Super 50 in the Caribbean.

He skippered Kent Spitfires during the 2022 Royal London Cup, lifting the trophy at Trent Bridge after a victorious final against Lancashire.

On further extending his time as a Kent cricketer, Denly said: “I’m really pleased to commit to Kent for at least another three seasons.

“I still feel like I can make some big contributions as a Kent player and it’s an exciting group that we have here now, eager to win more trophies.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket, Paul Downton, said: “Joe is a high-quality player who is an integral part of the dressing room here at Kent. We believe he will continue to make significant contributions with both bat and ball across all formats.

“Joe has been heavily involved in our trophy-winning sides in white-ball cricket over the past two seasons, captaining the Royal London Cup team superbly, and finishing as our top wicket taker in the 2021 Vitality Blast final. He also brings a huge amount of experience to our Championship batting line-up.”

This news comes after Tawanda Muyeye, Nathan Gilchrist & Hamid Qadri have also extended their Kent deals in the past few months.

Kent Spitfires’ T20 opener is against Gloucestershire at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury on Wednesday 24 May 2023 – entry to all scheduled T20 home matches is included in Kent Cricket Memberships, on sale now.
