Creating a welcoming environment: Accessible viewing platform

Kent Cricket is pleased to confirm the opening of a new accessible viewing platform at The Spitfire Ground St, Lawrence, adjacent to the Leslie Ames Stand.

The Spitfire Ground now has two areas designated for people with accessibility needs, with the new platform complimenting the area in the lower tier of the Frank Woolley Stand. There are now accessible areas at both sides of the ground.

Kent Spitfires’ T20 opener for 2023 is now less than 5 weeks away, against Gloucestershire at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury on Wednesday 24 May – entry to all scheduled T20 home matches is included in Kent Cricket Memberships, on sale now.

This and the accessible changing places facility attached to the Leslie Ames Stand were built by Rise Adaptions and are compliant with BS8300 – a British Code of Practice that sets out the requirements of how buildings should be designed, constructed, and maintained to meet the needs of disabled people, as well as create an accessible and inclusive environment for them. The new areas are also situated next to disabled parking bays.

The platform itself has a ramp access, and has been fitted with electrical charging points for the charging of mobility scooters. The changing places facility is fitted with a hoist, a bed, a shower and an adjustable sink to cater for different height requirements.

Kent Cricket is committed to ensuring that our sport is a game for everyone, and by creating a welcoming environment, giving access to watching top division live sport in the City of Canterbury to all.
