Edwards hits half-century for Western Fury in Women’s T20 in Australia
Kent captain Charlotte Edwards impressed again with the bat but could not prevent Western Fury's latest defeat toSouth Australia Scorpions.
Fury’s hopes of qualifying for the WT20 semi-finals are over after suffering a 36-run loss to South Australia Scorpions in Monday night’s double-header at the WACA Ground.
The Scorpions posted 136-6 from their 20 overs, with Emma King (2-13) and Gemma Triscari (2-20) producing tight spells to give the Fury hope.
The big hitting of Edwards' England colleague Sarah Taylor (40 off 23 balls) and Sophie Devine (37no off 22 including two sixes) was arguably the difference, as they managed to find the boundary rope at will.
Edwards played a lone hand in reply, posting 52 off 59 balls before being run out by Lauren Ebsary, effectively ending the contest.
The hosts found boundaries hard to come by, producing only five fours for the innings, with impressive New Zealander Devine (1-6 off three overs) putting the strangle on as the Fury finished 100-6.
The result leaves the Fury down in sixth spot on the WT20 table and out of finals contention.
The Fury are due to play the ACT Meteors in their final round of fixtures in a fortnight’s time.
