Saturday 20th June 2009

KENT and England captain Charlotte Edwards (pictured with her victorious team-mates, including Kent’s Lydia Greenway)said winning the World Twenty20, at Lord“s, was the ‘proudest day of her life“.

England dismissed New Zealand for just 85 and then eased to a comfortable six-wicket victory to add the World T20 crown to their Ashes and World Cup successes.

Talking just after the momentous victory, Edwards said: ‘I didn’t think it could get any better – but to win this on our home ground is very special. We produced our best bowling and fielding display so far. I am so proud we were able to do that in the final.“

Edwards, whose side has notched up another big win just months after the World Cup win in Australia, was clearly delighted: ‘It was a good toss to win and it was our best bowling and fielding performance of the tournament.“

Despite the fantastic victory, Edwards insisted that her team would not over celebrate: ‘We’ll celebrate tonight, but we’re then straight into the one-dayers with Australia and the Ashes. We have a busy but enjoyable few weeks coming up!“
