Farrant takes four as Kent beat Middlesex by 6 wickets

Tash Farrant took four wickets as Kent skittled Middlesex for 92 before captain Charlotte Edwards hit 30 not out to seal a six-wicket win.

The England left-armer, a Kent Cricket Academy graduate and one of seven internationals in the Kent eleven, saw off the Middlesex top-order with an excellent new-ball spell at the Nackington Road end.

Alice Davidson-Richards also struck with the new ball before the spin of Laura Marsh (2/18) and Megan Belt (1/24) curbed the visitors’ comeback.

Izzy Westbury and Naomi Dattani scored 14 each as Middlesex’s middle order tried to dig in after being reduced to 28-4.

Charlotte Pape and overseas signing Suzie Bates both struck in their solitary overs to wrap up the innings in 39 overs.

Tammy Beaumont began the reply aggressively with 20 from 19 balls before top-edging Alex Hartley to Beth Morgan at cover but lost opening partner Bates for 7 as Middlesex struck early to slow Kent’s progress.

Lydia Greenway dug in to score a patient 18 with Charlotte Edwards hitting an unbeaten 30 and Alice Davidson-Richards striking the winning runs over mid-on for four.

Kent Women return to action in a fortnight with a double-header at The County Ground, Beckenham against Stafforshire and Surrey.
