Gidman: We need to be better

Kent all-rounder Will Gidman is looking forward to bouncing back at his former club Durham in the Specsavers County Championship this weekend.

The 34-year-old made his first class debut at Emirates Riverside in 2007 and believes Kent can improve after Gloucestershire made the most of bowler-friendly conditions in the opener at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

He said: “We were a little bit rusty around the edges coming into this game because pre-season has been one of the wettest I can remember. We can take positives out of this match and move forward.

“I take our first innings out of it, to me that was just one of those things that can happen early season, so we just talk about the controllables. We could have saved ourselves 20 runs with the ball in their second innings and might have made another 30 more in our second dig.

“Add those potential 40 to 50 runs on, we would have had a real game on even with our 64 all out. We need to be better and more switched on when we go up to Durham for the next round.”
