Men’s First Team

Close of play, Day One: Kent 205, Gloucestershire 107 for 3

Gloucestershire’s Will Gidman took 5 for 38 on the opening day at Cheltenham. Kent were soon reduced to 59 for 6 and looked to be in trouble, having lost Joe Denly (13), Sam Northeast (34), Martin Van Jaarsveld (1) and Alex Blake (2), along with County Championship debutant Chris Piesley and Geraint Jones for no score. Darren Stevens instigated an impressive resurgence for Kent, making 67, including nine fours, and shared a partnership of 83 with James Tredwell (45). Kent were eventually all out for 205, having secured a batting bonus point.

Gloucestershire made 107 for 3 before close of play, with Hamish Marshall reaching 37 and Kane Williamson 29 before both lost their wickets after a rain delay. Kent’s wickets before the close give them all to play for on Day Two.
