Kent 60 & 70+ Squads 2021 Season Report

I looked at my end of term report for Season 2016 and it indicated we played nearly 70 fixtures over our five teams. 122 players walked or ambled to the wicket with the 70+ First XI finishing fourth, their highest position for some time. They have since gone on to win the 70+ Division One Trophy.

Now in 2021 we field seven teams and have played over 100 matches and given 155 players at least one match. Four 60+ teams and three 70+ teams with the 70+ Third XI playing competitive friendlies. As in 2016 the 60+ First XI won their competition by beating Cheshire and this year was no different – they beat Warwickshire in an excellent game of cricket in the final in farthest Oxfordshire.

Strangely enough in 2016 our 60+ Second XI reached the qualifiers and lost to Wales as they did this year. The 60+ Third XI won their competition for the fifth time in six years with the Fourth XI being pipped into second place by three points.

Once again we’ve been privileged to play on excellent home grounds supplied by our local clubs and together with our excellent panel of umpires and scorers, cricket at this level is an absolute pleasure.

We have three new Captains this year, with many thanks to those who are standing down. However we still continue to recruit so if you wish to show us what you can do, join us at our Indoor Nets in the New Year at the County Ground in Beckenham starting on 9 March for seven consecutive Wednesdays from noon onwards for one hour.

For those of a worrying nature, we have seven defibrillators across all our teams with many team members skilled in their use.

We continue to be thankful for the support given to us by Shepherd Neame and Kent Cricket and the publicity they give us on their websites.

Our teams are selected purely on merit, the Captains are competitive and we pay to play with no annual subscription. So make their selection tasks even more difficult by registering as soon as possible and join a group similar to yourself with similar strains and ailments. You’ll fit in perfectly.

I’m sure at our age, longevity is more important than statistics but if you are interested look at:

We had an excellent end of season dinner at Bearsted Golf Club and look forward to another summer of strappings, bandages, Tiger Balm and any other medication that gets us through to September.
