Derbyshire 249 (40 overs) beat Kent 218 (34.1 overs) by 31 runs

Derbyshire have beaten Kent by 31 runs at Derby, despite a heroic performance from Darren Stevens and some formidable bowling from Azhar Mahmood and Wahab Riaz.

Kent won the toss and elected to bat second. New Zealander, Martin Guptill’s century underpinned the Derbyshire Falcons’ innings. Guptill(102) shared an opening stand of 59 with Chesney Hughes(33) and enjoyed a fourth wicket partnership of 129 with Greg Smith. Derbyshire made 249 for nine, despite Azhar Mahmood taking 4 for 57 and Wahab Riaz 3 for 45.

Martin Van Jaarsveld’s 29 and Darren Stevens' 65 off 52 balls, including three fours and three sixes gave the Spitfires a chance, but they were unable to sustain this with James Tredwell (37) the only other support, as Jonathan Clare took 3 for 61.
