Kent Spitfires cruise to victory over Surrey Lions at Beckenham

Sunday 26th June 2011

Men’s First Team

Kent 153-4 (18.1 ovs) beat Surrey 150-4 (20.0 ovs) by six wickets with 11 ball remaining.

Surrey Lions won the toss and elected to bat; making 150-4 thanks largely to Tom Maynard’s impressive 76 runs off 53 balls. Some admirable fielding from Kent kept Surrey’s run-rate down, including an impressive one-handed catch from Geraint Jones, to dismiss Steve Davies for 27.

A disappointing start for Kent saw Joe Denly and Rob Key both fall early, but Azhar Mahmood (49) and MartinVan Jaarsveld were in good form, the latter making 62, including six fours and two sixes. The 112-run stand between Mahmood and Van Jaarsveld was the highlight of the Kent innings and left little work for Darren Stevens and Sam Northeast, who brought the Spitfires' victory with 11 balls to spare.
