Kent Spitfires to take on Sussex Sharks in Canterbury Week opener

Saturday 1st August 2015

Men’s First Team

Kent Spitfires kick off Canterbury Week 2015 against Sussex Sharks in the Royal London One-Day Cup at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on Sunday (10.30am start).

The hosts name an unchanged squad after a home win over Hampshire on Thursday was followed by defeat at Radlett against Middlesex.

Captain Sam Northeast believes the team spirit is at the heart of Kent's recent solid form in the shorter formats.

The 25-year-old Ashford-born batsman said: "As the NatWest T20 Blast performances this year have shown, there’s a good spirit amongst the lads and we’re hoping we can take that forward and get on a roll in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

“I enjoy captaining a side full of lads who are willing to learn as there’s a lot of energy about the place. It’s an easy job when there’s a good buzz around the dressing rooms.

"But the best part is when you’ve a plan going forward, you put things into place and then you see them come to fruition and the guys play with freedom. That’s a great feeling.”

Kent Spitfires squad: 17 Sam Northeast (c), 23 Daniel Bell-Drummond, 6 Joe Denly, 30 Fabian Cowdrey, 3 Darren Stevens, 10 Alex Blake, 20 Sam Billings, 26 Matt Coles, 15 James Tredwell, 8 Mitch Claydon, 14 Matt Hunn, 5 Ivan Thomas.
