Kent storm to back-to-back T20 wins

Kent Women beat Worcestershire and Yorkshire in the Vitality Women’s T20 at Kidderminster.

Spinners Megan Belt and Jenni Jackson each claimed four wickets in the day with Grace Gibbs making vital contributions with bat and ball in both games.

Without a trio of players on England duty, vice-captain Davidson-Richards skippered the side, top-scored with 37 and claiming a wicket against the hosts in the first match.

The 23-year-old was well supported by Grace Gibbs (33), Lauren Griffiths (22) and Izzy Cloke (20) as the visitors posted 135 for five after winning the toss.

In reply, Belt (2/10) removed both openers after taking the new ball in the powerplay with Jenni Jackson’s superb spell of 2/5 sealing the win after a Grace Gibbs wicket and a Jodie Hobson run-out.

The second match against Yorkshire was a tougher proposition with the White Rose county opting to bat first.

Yorkshire’s openers started strongly targeting the new-ball duo of Arlene Kelly and Belt before Davidson-Richards (1/19) and Jackson (2/16) restricting the scoring and Belt returned to claim two wickets as Yorkshire posted 103-6.

Batting made it tricky to time shots before Gibbs (27*) steadied the ship with Maidstone teenager Grace Scrivens hit 24 off 17 balls in only her second senior match.

The left-hander came to the crease with Kent languishing on 64-5 but shared an unbroken stand of 40 with Gibbs to seal the win with more than an over to spare.

The final double-header in the competition against Middlesex and Warwickshire takes place at The County Ground, Beckenham next Sunday (1 July). Entry is free for Kent Members, Under 16s and Canterbury Christ Church staff and students.
