Kent trio Charlotte Edwards (pictured), Lydia Greenway and Tammy Beaumont all played their part as England women edged past India by three runs in the second ODI in Bangalore on Sunday. The score in the five-match series now stands at 1-1.

Batting first, England started well and Jenny Gunn“s 64 looked to have given them a solid platform at 94 for two but the introduction of spinner Gouher Sultana changed the complexion of the innings. The left-arm orthodox bowler ran through the English middle-order taking four for 30, including the scalps of captain Edwards for 15 and Beaumont for a three ball duck. Batting at four, Greenway could only contribute four as India restricted England to 183 for eight from their 50-overs.

India were soon in deep trouble as Katherine Brunt ripped through the top order and, at one stage, were reduced to 16 for four. Mithali Raj halted the flow of wickets and in tandem with Amita Sharma put on 106 for the fifth wicket as India edged towards their victory target. However, Gunn completed a fine all-round display by taking two for 38 and Brunt finished with five for 22 as India required five runs off the last over to claim victory. Raj, who ended unbeaten on 91, took a single off the first ball leaving number eleven Sultana on strike to finish the task but Caroline Atkins executed a run-out to seal a thrilling three-run win. Wicketkeeper Beaumont contributed with a catch and a stumping as England levelled up the series ahead of the third meeting in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
