Kent U17s win the ECB Championship Trophy

Wednesday 2nd September 2009

Kent under 17s made it a week to remember as they lifted the ECB County Championship Trophy on Thursday afternoon, beating Durham in a rain affected final at Arundel Castle.

Kent posted an imposing target of 383 with Daniel Bell-Drummond scoring an impressive 100. In reply, Durham were dismissed for just 212 with Adam Riley taking four wickets and Fabian Cowdrey three.

The young cricketers have had a particularly successful year – earlier this week they beat Surrey by eight wickets to reach the final of the ECB Cup Competition. They now have the chance to do the double when they face Yorkshire or Durham in the final of the ECB 50 Over Cup Competition.

Jason Weaver, Kent Cricket Board“s High Performance Manager, said: “This performance is a further indication of the strength in depth that we currently enjoy at Kent. We have some fine young players coming through the system and it promises to be an exciting end to the season for all concerned.”
