KENT’Scricketers staged one of the great comebacks to record a superb 192 run victory over Essex at Chelmsford. After being forced to follow on, Darren Stevens (136 not out) and skipper Martin van Jaarsveld (102) starred with the bat as Kent declared their second innings on 512 for nine. This left Essex an improbable victory target of 348. The win never looked likely as Robbie Joseph (pictured)and Wayne Parnell bowled beautifully with the new ball to reduce the home side to 34 for four.
Former Kent left-hander Matt Walker patiently stuck around for 16 before he became one of six wickets for Joseph. The England Lions fast-bowler was at his very best – returning figures of six for 55. All-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate top-scored for Essex with 36 but when he edged Parnell to van Jaarsveld, victory was in sight. The South African finished with figures of three for 56 as Kent set themselves up nicely for back-to-back Friends Provident Trophy matches with an emphatic win.n
