Kent Women take on rivals in running challenges

Kent Women will go head-to-head with their nearest neighbours over the next few weeks with several distance running challenges.

With the cricket season currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cricketers around the country have been getting creative with ways to keep their competitive spirit going.

A ‘squad’ of 15 Kent Women stars, led by their captain, Tammy Beaumont, will take on their counterparts from Surrey, Essex and Middlesex.

International stars Kirstie Gordon and Sarah Bryce will be representing Kent for the first time, whilst Susie Rowe competes for ‘The Horses’ for the first time since 2012.

A squad of players and coaches will each be given 30 minutes, taken at their best convenience across each weekend, to run as far as they can. Every member of that team will report the distance they ran to create a team total.

That team total will then be divided by the distance between the two home grounds that those sides represent. The side that makes the most journeys between those grounds wins.

Kent Women ‘fixtures’ and results:

  • 18/19 April – Surrey vs. Kent – The Oval to The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence – 57 miles – Surrey won by 2.21km
  • 25/26 April – Essex vs. Kent – Chelmsford to The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence – 59 miles
  • 2/3 May – Lord’s to The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence – 61 miles
