Kent v Warwickshire LV= County Championship Division 1, Day 3
By Mark Pennell
Warwickshire began the slow process of clawing their way back into the game on Thursday as the visitors went in at lunch on 69 for one after 27 overs – an overall match deficit of 58 runs.
Having lost Darren Maddy (3) to the 15th ball of their second innings, Warwickshire“s second wicket partners Ian Bell (33) and Ian Westwood (30) went on to reach the interval without further alarm despite six bowling changes by home skipper Rob Key.
Maddy, who faced only four balls, shouldered arms to one from Amjad Khan that just held its own up the St Lawrence slope to trap the former Leicestershire right-hander LBW.
Having resumed on their overnight score of 374 for nine, Kent lost their final wicket, that of Darren Stevens, to only the third ball of the day from Rikki Clarke.
Having seen Makhaya Ntini hit the previous ball for three, Stevens flailed across the line to go leg before for 57 and give Clarke career-best figures of six for 63.
