Kia Super League Round-Up

Kent Women stars learned their respective Kia Super League fates as the group stage of the competition came to crescendo over the past week.

Alice Davidson-Richards had a welcome return to form, taking six wickets in three matches, whilst Fran Wilson and the Western Storm secured a fast-track to the Final of the competition this Sunday.

‘ADR’ was back in the wickets with 2/51, also taking a catch, as her Yorkshire Diamonds defeated fierce rivals Lancashire Thunder by four wickets. Before also taking 1/33 in a 5 run defeat of Western Storm, she came up against Kent skipper Tammy Beaumont and T20 captain Tash Farrant of the Southern Vipers.

Having previously got out to two Kent teammates in the competition, ADR got her ‘revenge’ by claiming 3/21 against the Viper, including the scalp of Beaumont, who scored 33 in the match. Davidson-Richards also claimed a catc hto dismiss the dangerous Danni Wyatt earlier in the innings.

Tash Farrant was also heavily involved in the match, taking 2/27, including dismissing Laura Winfield for a two-ball duck in her first over, as the Vipers ran out winners by four wickets.

Beaumont also features in the Vipers’ 36 run win against Loughborough Lightning, scoring 13 with the bat and taking a catch to give Vipers pacer Issy Wong her first wicket.

Grace Gibbs was involved for the Surrey Stars in their 35 run win over Lancashire Thunder, bowling Sophia Dunkler for a first-ball duck and only conceding six runs from her over with the ball.

Also lining up for the Surrey Stars was Laura Marsh. Her off-spin accounted for 1/44 in the Stars’ five wicket defeat to Loughborough Lightning, and also contibruted with a run-out.

She also took 2/31 in a 77 run defeat to table-toppers Western Storm, notably dismissing England captain Heather Knight, whilst Fran Wilson scored 14 not out.

Wilson’s Western Storm secured their final berth, whilst Beaumont and Farrant’s Southern Vipers will take on Loughborough Lightning in an Eliminator round to decide the Storm’s opponents in the Final on 1st September.
