Match Preview: Hampshire vs. Kent Spitfires

Less than a week after Kent came away from the Ageas Bowl with a draw in the Specsavers County Championship, the Spitfires head back to Southampton in Vitality Blast competition.

Kent travel to Southampton buoyed by an emphatic 41-run win over Somerset at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence on Saturday evening, where a Spitfires side containing five Vitality Blast debutants successfully defended a first innings total of 165/9.

Imran Qayyum took career-best figures of 5/21 and Kent Academy graduate Ollie Robinson top-scored with 53 from 49 balls along with contributions from Mohammad Nabi (34 from 20), Hardus Viljoen (2/36) and Adam Milne (2/15).

No wides and no no balls were conceded by Kent in their innings in the field – the icing on the cake in an impressive innings with the ball.

An unchanged squad from the Somerset win will take on a Hampshire team boosted by the return of former Kent captain Sam Northeast after England Lions duty, as well as England World Cup winning squad members James Vince and Liam Dawson.

Kent Spitfires will play at home against against rivals Essex Eagles in the third “Battle of the Bridge” of the Summer on Friday
