Match Preview: Kent Spitfires vs. Surrey

Kent Spitfires return to Canterbury to welcome their oldest rivals, Surrey, in the Vitality Blast.

The hosts will count themselves unlucky to have not picked up a victory from the first two scheduled matches of this year’s competition, after a washout from a strong position denied Kent victory at home to Hampshire on the opening day, and an extraordinary tie at Lord’s against Middlesex this past Saturday.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is currently Kent’s highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing exactly 100 runs in two innings – a blistering 72 from just 32 deliveries against Middlesex, and 28 after the frustrating abandonment against Hants.

Bell-Drummond, who has captained Kent in every match so far, also tops the Spitfires’ six-hitting table, having smashed five so far in the South Group.

Netherlands international Fred Klaassen currently tops Kent’s wicket-taking charts, with four in two appearances so far at an average of just 17.50.

Heino Kuhn returns to Kent’s squad and is in line to make his first start for the Spitfires in the 2020 Vitality Blast.

Sam Billings and Joe Denly (England) remain unavailable for selection.

Amazingly, Surrey’s results in this year’s Vitality Blast have exactly mirrored that of Kent’s, wth one no result due to rain and one tie so far – the tie coming against Essex Eagles on Sunday.

Ben Foakes is currently Surrey’s top run-scorer in the tournament, with 44 against Essex, whilst Gus Atkinson has taken two wickets at 18.00.

With spectators not allowed inside The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Kent Cricket and principal partner Shepherd Neame have joined together to bring members and supporters the NEW ‘Kent Spitfires at Home Match Day Pack’.

This includes an enhanced live streaming service, with ball tracking and a multi-camera production using high definition cameras, as well as commentary courtesy of former Kent captain Dave Fulton and ‘The Voice of Kent Cricket’, Steve Watts.

The Live Stream for this fixture will be available here from 13:30 onwards on Tuesday.
