The Kent Spitfires welcome Sussex Sharks to The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence for Vitality Blast action under the lights on Friday night.

This is Kent’s penultimate home match in the competition, with only the visit of Glamorgan still to come next month, and the Spitfires will look to record more victories and move up the South Group table.

Joe Denly remains Kent’s highest scorer in the competition with 358 runs in ten matches, and the right-hander almost has the most sixes for Kent this year with 12.

With 10 sixes, and a recent milestone passed of 2,000 T20 runs for Kent, Alex Blake has a tournament strike rate of 140.17 – behind only Grant Stewart (146.66) & George Linde (156.73).

Two bowlers have gone into double figures this tournament in terms of taking wickets; two internationals in Netherlands’ Fred Klaassen (11) and Italy’s Grant Stewart (10) both have bowling averages of under 30.00.

Opposition report

Sussex Sharks take on Surrey on Thursday night, and have the astronomical talents of Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan & Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan available in their squad.

After 10 matches, the Sharks have recorded three victories and have six points to Kent’s four – their last victory coming against Middlesex on 3 June.

Mohammad Rizwan averages 55.75 with the bat for the visitors, but it’s Tom Alsop, who starred against Kent in the reverse fixture at Hove earlier in the tournament, who has the most runs – his 302 have come at a strike rate of 162.36.

Following the departure of West Indies’ Obed McCoy, Steven Finn & Tymal Milles have the most wickets for the Sharks so far this tournament with 13 at averages of 21.69 & 22.84 respectively.


Team News

With the LV= Insurance County Championship resuming this week, Daniel Bell-Drummond has not been included in Kent’s matchday squad for the visit of Sussex Sharks.

Fred Klaassen returns after featuring for the Netherlands against England, and Hamid Qadri is included in a Spitfires T20 squad for the the first time the season.

Zak Crawley will be unavailable for Kent due to international duty.
