Match Preview: Somerset vs. Kent Spitfires

The Kent Spitfires take on Somerset in repeat of our 2019 Vitality Blast curtain raiser at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Saturday night.

In the reverse fixture, the Spitfires ran out winners by 41 runs as a career-best five wicket haul from left-arm spinner Imran Qayyum (5-21) and wickets from Adam Milne (2-15) and Hardus Viljoen (2-36) reduced Somerset to 124 all out, chasing Kent’s score of 165/9 from their 20 overs.

Ollie Robinson scored 53 from 49 balls on T20 debut for Kent and a 20-ball 34 from Mohammad Nabi introduced himself for the first time to the Kent Spitfires home crowd in Canterbury.

Nabi currently tops the county’s six-hitting charts with 11 in eight matches, Alex Blake in second with 10.

Daniel Bell-Drummond has scored the most runs for Kent in the tournament so far with 205 in eight appearances. Hardus Viljoen remains the tournament’s overall top wicket taker so far with 16.

For Somerset, World no.1 T20 batsman Babar Azam has scored 323 runs in seven appearances at 53.83, and veteran all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe has taken 11 wickets at 19.80.

This fixture will be televised LIVE on Sky Sports Cricket (toss at 18:30).
