Match Preview: Surrey vs. Kent

The 258th first-class meeting between Surrey and Kent since Kent Cricket’s foundation in 1870 takes place at the Kia Oval in South London from Sunday.

Following Kent’s LV= Insurance County Championship victory against Gloucestershire last time out, the visitors will be looking for more points as they look to secure survival in Division One, currently sitting in seventh position in the table.

Ben Compton is now only 18 runs away from surpassing 1,000 runs both for Kent and in English first-class competition this Summer.

Jordan Cox, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jack Leaning all have Championship centuries to their name this season, and both average over 45.00 with the bat for Kent.

Of available seam options, Matt Quinn has the most wicket for Kent so far this first-class season, with 11 to his name.

Opposition Report

Surrey are currently unbeaten in first-class cricket this Summer after a strong start of four victories and three draws in Division One – one of those draws coming against Kent at The County Ground, Beckenham earlier this season.

However, the hosts will be without their top run scorers in Ben Foakes & Ollie Pope due to England’s Test series against New Zealand.

Skipper Rory Burns is the three feathers’ next highest run scorer, with 394 runs at an average of 43.77.

With the ball, Surrey will also be without top wicket taker Jamie Overton (England), but will be able to call upon the talents of Jordan Clark, Daniel Worrall and the spin of Will Jacks.

Live Streaming

Surrey vs. Kent will be streamed and embedded into the Match Centre on the Kent Cricket website, with pictures coming via Surrey CCC.
