Kent make the journey to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

Both sides will be hoping for victory as the ‘business end’ of 2022’s Division One begins, with the two teams on an equal playing record & a difference of five points separating them.

Kent’s Ben Compton was the first batter in Division One this season to pass 1,000 runs, & now averages 79.14 in the Championship. Daniel Bell-Drummond has over 700 runs to his name, too – with both batters having scored a century on four occasions apiece. Jordan Cox has 688 runs at 49.14.

Matt Milnes has 14 wickets so far, Matt Quinn 13 & George Linde 12.


Opposition Report

Warwickshire have the same playing record as Kent in this year’s Championship, with one victory, three defeats & five draws to their name so far.

The Bears are currently five points ahead of the visitors in seventh place of Division One, with both sides at least 18 points ahead of Somerset in ninth place as things stand.

Both Sam Hain & Michael Burgess have recorded over 700 runs this Championship season, Hain’s 202* the highest Warwickshire score with the bat to date.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby is by far the Bears’ most effective bowler so far in 2022’s red-ball season – his 35 wickets have come at an average of 22.85 & an economy of 2.63.

Left-arm spinner Danny Briggs is next with 17 wickets, & Australian overseas player Nathan McAndrew has 16.

UK Heatwave

With extreme heat predicted during this fixture, the ECB has confirmed that First & Second XI cricket is still set to proceed.

However, the intention is to introduce mitigation measures to reduce risk of heat stress/illness, monitor the situation & allow for local decisions.

Playing conditions will be determined by the Match Officials & may include shortened sessions, for example 3 x 90 mins with time made up on Days Two-Four, drinks breaks & even the potential to leave the field.


Team News

Matt Henry has rejoined the Kent squad for his second stint as a Kent player, and could play alongside India fast bowler Navdeep Saini, with both players included in Kent’s matchday squad of 12.

Two overseas players are permitted in a Playing XI in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

Darren Stevens & Nathan Gilchrist are nearing returns to first-team action after featuring for the Second XI recently.

Harry Podmore remains sidelined with a knee injury.
