An excellent all-round batting display saw the Second XI to a six wicket South Group T20 victory over Middlesex, at Merchant Taylors School, Northwood.

There was match time for Alex Blake, Harry Podmore, Tawanda Muyeye, Grant Stewart, Matt Milnes & Hamid Qadri as Kent gear up for the beginning of the Vitality Blast on Wednesday.

Set 155 to win from their 20 overs, Kent got off to a good start; with Gordon and Muyeye putting together a 49 run partnership for the first wicket.

Muyeye scored 33, which included seven boundaries. Kent paced their innings perfectly with young wicket-keeper Sam Smith hitting the winning runs with a huge six, to end the innings on 156 for 4, with seven deliveries left.

Grant Stewart, getting back to fitness after an injury lay-off was 24 not out, having hit three sixes in his knock, and Harry Finch made 34.

A strong Middlesex side made 154 for 9 from their 20 overs having won the toss, Steve Eskinazi hitting 78 before he was bowled by Milnes, who took three wickets. Stewart and Podmore took two wickets apiece.

Kent Second XI are in T20 action again today (Tuesday), when they entertained Surrey in a South Group match, at Polo Farm, Canterbury, and on Thursday June 10, Essex will be the opponents at the same venue. On Sunday, June 13, Kent Seconds travel to New Malden, to play Surrey in another South Group T20 fixture.

Second XI home matches are still being played behind closed doors because COVID restrictions still apply and no spectators are allowed into these games.
