Match Reports: Kent Second XI vs. Essex Second XI

Kent Second XI’s T20 campaign has been badly derailed by the weather, with only one positive result proving possible in the first five matches in the Southern Group.

Another double header, with day-night fixtures against Essex Second XI at the Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford, were also affected, with the first match, scheduled for an afternoon start abandoned because of rain.

The evening match, under floodlights, did get started but that ended as a No Result, the rain returning after just two overs of the second innings, when the umpires abandoned play.

Put into bat Kent Seconds were 154 all out in their 20 overs, Joe Denly top scored with 67, including seven boundaries and a six, and Tawanda Muyeye scored 25. Matt Critchley took 3 for 32.

The home side were 22 without loss off two overs, Adam Rossington 12 not out, and Will Buttleman eight, Matt Milnes and Joe Denly were the opening bowlers when the match was called off.

Kent Seconds will be hoping the weather will be kinder to them on  Wednesday, May 25, when they have another double header against Hampshire, at the County Ground, Beckenham. The matches start at 11:30 and 15:00, and entry is free.
