My Career T20 Teammate Top Six: Sam Billings

Friday 21st June 2024

Men’s First Team

Speaking on the latest Kent Cricket Podcast, sponsored by H & K Safety Services, our T20 Captain Sam Billings was tasked with picking a theoretical six-a-side T20 team, based only on cricketers that he has played with in his career.

After laughing that he would get ‘slated for a few name drops’, Billings gave us his six-a-side team of teammates in his career so far, made up of two batters, a wicketkeeper, an all-rounder and two bowlers.

Sam Billings’ T20 Teammate Top Six:

  • Faf du Plessis – Batter

“He played for Kent, of course, and his record speaks for itself.

“Still playing at the age he is, all around the world, he’s a great character and someone who I’ve learnt a huge amount from.”

  • Shane Watson – Batter

“I played with both of them [du Pless & Watson] during my couple of years at Chennai. Two role models for me and two people to whom I owe a lot.

“Shane has done it all over the world, did it internationally, and scored probably the most ridiculous hundred in the IPL final to win us that title.”

  • M.S. Dhoni – Wicketkeeper

“Not even close. Just, ‘cool’, he epitomises cool in absolutely everything he does.

“Arguably the greatest ever at that role in T20 cricket, I’m very thankful for playing with him.”

  • Ravindra Jadeja – All-Rounder

“He’s going to go down as one of the best ever, and brilliant fielder as well.

“The epitome of a three-dimensional cricketer and what a cool guy as well, just didn’t turn up to training one day at Chennai because he was riding his horses and didn’t tell anyone – just because he does what he wants. I think he was Man of the Match in the next game!”

  • Pat Cummins – Bowler

“Has to be in there. I first played with Pat at Penrith when I was 22 in club cricket, so we’ve been mates for well over 10 years now.

“He was as fast, as good, and what a guy – has not changed a bit! He’s one of the biggest stars on the planet and one of the nicest guys, an incredibly humble guy.”

  • Adam Milne – Bowler

“When he’s ‘on’, he’s as good as anyone around the world. At the death, swings it both ways, 90+ mph, and a great guy.

“Another Kent guy, I had to get him in there as well! Someone that would surprise a few people, but he really is that good when he’s on.”
