Kent pace prospect Sam Weller took two Middlesex wickets as Oxford MCCU fought back after batting first at The Parks.

Weller won the toss and elected a bat, a decision he probably regretted when Middlesex's attack led by England World Cup bowler Steven Finn helped reduce the students to 15-4 with three wickets.

He ended on 3-25 from ten overs, supported by new-ball partner Tim Murtagh (3-26) as Malcolm Lake's 64 gave the only resistance as Oxford were all out for 124 in 46.1 overs.

The LV= County Championship Division One side started well with Nick Gubbins (32) and ex-England opener Sam Robson (24) adding 54 before the latter was trapped LBW by Lake's medium pace.

Sam Weller led from the front as then dismissed his partner, caught behind by 'keeper Ed Ellis at the start of a sequence of five wickets for 18 runs in eight overs.

After Dawid Malan (9) and Nick Compton (1) departed, Weller notched another scalp by dismissing Ireland's World Cup opener Paul Stirling to leave the pros reeling on 85-5.

Sussex rookie fast bowler Abi Sakande (2-21) claimed another victim before stumps to leave Middlesex on 98 for six on an eventful first day.

Sam Weller bowled 14 overs including six maidens, two wickets for 14 runs.
